WHAT IS A LIFE GROUP?
A Life Group is a small group of 6-12 believers who meet in each other’s homes, coffee shops and other places for fellowship, Bible discussion, and prayer to grow closer to God and closer to one another. We encourage each other to evangelism and to discipleship. In a fun and comfortable environment, Life Groups serve to cultivate spiritual growth towards becoming a mature disciple of Jesus. Life Groups give us a place where we can encourage each other through the highs and lows of life.
We are designed to be in relationship with God first and foremost; we are also designed to be in relationship with others (Matthew 22:37-40). The purpose of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus. We believe relationships are the vehicle in accomplishing this command, and we have seen it happen firsthand.
We believe we should be making disciples in relational environments because that is how we see Jesus making His disciples. Jesus gave us an example of time spent together with others. The twelve disciples and Jesus ate together, traveled together, attended weddings, and experienced funerals. When we live alongside a group of people in the same manner, we can form connections and bonds that go deep. Jesus taught the disciples lessons about God and life, not only by words, but by example (Acts 2:42-47).
Relational environments – Life Groups – were never the end-goal for Jesus, but rather were a means to the end; Jesus used relational environments as a place to connect with his potential disciples, train them, and send them out to make disciples who make disciple makers (Matthew 28:18-20; 2 Timothy 2:1-2)
WHAT IS A DISCIPLE?
“And he said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”
Matthew 4:19:
We define a disciple as one who is committed to Following Jesus, committed to Being Changed by Jesus, and is committed to Joining the Mission of Jesus.
